The Department of Psychiatry

Head: MUDr. Jan Tuček

Basic information:

The department of psychiatry provides highly specialized acute care for mentally ill patients from the whole South-Bohemia Region. The provided comprehensive care includes the whole range of mental disorders, i.e. organic conditions, psychotic conditions including schizophrenia, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and other neurotic disorders.

Hospital stays are mostly short-term. When a hospital stay of longer duration is needed, we cooperate with mental asylums in as well as outside the South-Bohemia Region territory.

We can currently use 42 acute beds. The department can also use the services of a day care centre. Other integrated parts are the psychological laboratory, psychiatric outpatient surgery, outpatient paediatric and adolescent surgeries, surgery for the treatment of alcoholics and patients with addictions to other drugs, and outpatient sexology.

The tasks of the department also include consultation services for departments of the hospital, specialized care for children and adults with a strong focus on eating disorders, and probation treatment of sexual offenders. An integral part is also outpatient care for people with alcoholism and addiction to non-alcohol drugs.

Our patients are treated according to the principles of modern pharmacotherapy, electroconvulsive therapy, and we use dynamically oriented psychotherapy as well as cognitive behavioural therapy, relaxation techniques, and methods of social rehabilitation.
